Meals Served

  • Formerly Intermediate Christian Home – Birthed at Cambridge Vineyard Church in 2003 for 7 homeless people using a business model and registered as a charity in 2013. In 2015, Richard and Mirella Martin (founders) moved into the home thus creating a family like atmosphere. Consequently, the city officials allowed only 5 homeless people plus home providers.

  • All residents accepted into the program are motivated to make life style changes in order to prevent future homelessness

  • Each resident is required to sign a Shared Living Agreement (SLA) and 1 year lease agreement

  • All residents are encouraged to pursue wholeness including: part-time or full time employment/volunteer work, attend church meetings and co-operate with medical team/social services.

    During the 2020 Pandemic

  • Group Home operations were reduced to 3 people on main floor. The Martins created an apartment in upper level for personal use. The mission expanded into the community to address the growing needs of people in mental health crisis.

  • Mission was renamed to Light of the World Community Outreach in 2022.

  • Impact From 2020 to 2023, Apostolic Christian Church provided financial and volunteer support through their youth/young adults program. Weekly we served 50-70 hot meals to tent dwellers. Bi-weekly-we delivered groceries to 20-25 low income households. Spiritual care/Prayer Support was offered to all recipients on our list. Thankful to ACC church and volunteers from several Cambridge Churches.

  • Aug 24 2023- The Region of Waterloo evicted tent dwellers from 150 Main St parking lot and later they moved to Soper Park and they were evicted again. As a result, they scattered in wooded areas throughout the city. This raised a concern for safety for our volunteers. Over time, we sensed that God's Spirit was leading us to offer Bible Studies at two of the building sites where we were offering support (Robert Kerr Manor and Gertude Burgar Court.) In 2024, we also partnered with Cambridge Vineyard Church, Urban Hope and Missions to Margins, Jeff Hesselink. Our role is to teach a weekly Bible study, to share resources and to provide rides.
